A traveling exhibition with an intercultural context
The journey starts with a celebration in a small village in the Banat area in Western Romania. According to Katharina Eismann, Timisoara born poet: “during celebration night, the priest crossed the Iron Curtain by foot along with15 couples who left Ceausescu’s dictatorship. The celebration ended with an escape. An adventurous border crossing became legendary for those who wanted to leave Romania.”
Eismann wrote a story about this border crossing initially. Then, she met the painter and object artist Hagen Bonifer. Both of them were captivated by the “celebration” idea. Together with Sven Eismann, installation artist, they created a table covered with text extracts as an open book. At the same time, the table serves as a track, because it travels.
In cooperation with Hessen’s regional integration program “WE” of the city of Offenbach, the three artists developed the intercultural travelling exhibition presenting lyrics, artwork, performance and installation, shown on several exhibition spots during their journey to Timisoara.
